Dr. Murgu is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago Medicine in the USA, where he is also the Program Director of the Interventional Pulmonology Fellowship.

His clinical interests include interventional pulmonology and procedure-related training. His specific expertise is in minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopic and pleural procedures for the management of lung cancer and central airway disorders. This interest is also seen in his research work, where he published extensively on the role of bronchoscopy for molecular testing, diagnosis of lung nodules, and therapeutic bronchoscopy for central airway disorders. He has more than 120 peer-reviewed publications and authored four medical books, including a best-seller textbook on bronchoscopy for central airways diseases. He is actively involved in teaching bronchoscopy, pleural procedures, central airway disorders throughout the world. Dr. Murgu is the Immediate Past President of the American Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology, the past Chair of Education Committee for the American College of Chest Physicians, a member of the Program Committees for the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer programs, ACCP and is an Editor for the World Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology Newsletter. Dr. Murgu devotes significant time to training chest physicians throughout the world in advanced diagnostic, therapeutic bronchoscopic and pleural procedures.
