Dr. Stephen Kovacs is a pulmonary and interventional bronchoscopy specialist who serves as Chief of the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at UPMC Hamot. He’s widely recognized for being the first physician in the United States to perform robotic bronchoscopy and for leading innovations that push lung cancer diagnostics forward. In recent years, Dr. Kovacs has played a key role in advancing Dynamic Cell Imaging within bronchoscopic workflows through his clinical and strategic work with CellTivity Scientific and the Van Gogh system—using real-time metabolic activity and lesion-in-tool confirmation to elevate diagnostic accuracy. Beyond his clinical leadership, he collaborates with medtech and biotech companies to bring meaningful, frontline insight to emerging technologies, and he continues to educate through entrepreneurial initiatives such as MedEd+ and ReInvented Learning.
