Dr. George Cheng is a Professor of Medicine and Director of Interventional Pulmonology at the University of California San Diego, where he leads one of the most comprehensive academic programs in advanced bronchoscopy and thoracic therapeutics in the United States. His work focuses on the development and clinical integration of robotic and image-guided bronchoscopy systems, cone-beam CT–based navigation, and translational biomaterials for targeted lung cancer therapy.
Nationally, Dr. Cheng serves as Chair of the Research Committee for the American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (AABIP) and Chair of the Thoracic Oncology Network for the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST). He has led multiple multicenter clinical trials and translational collaborations advancing minimally invasive diagnostics and localized therapeutics in lung cancer and pleural disease.
A recognized leader in robotic bronchoscopy innovation and procedural education, Dr. Cheng has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications and is an invited speaker at international conferences on image-guided pulmonary intervention and robotics. His current work integrates AI-enhanced navigation, cone-beam CT workflow optimization, and nanoparticle-loaded bioadhesive therapeutics to advance precision medicine in thoracic oncology.
