Prof. Dr. Erik H.F.M. van der Heijden is a Professor in Interventional Pulmonology at Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

He has 20 years of experience in interventional pulmonology and remains active daily in performing procedures.

He is the program director of the national reference and training center for CBCT-based navigation bronchoscopy for pulmonary nodules.

He also directs the center for central airway diseases, performing rigid bronchoscopies (stents, debulking with laser, electrocautery, cryo), and is the reference and training center for endoscopic ultrasound, EUS and EBUS, transthoracic ultrasound, and pleura procedures.

He is an expert and trainer in advanced navigation bronchoscopy with cone-beam CT-guided and CBCT-supported procedures, including electromagnetic navigation, robotic-assisted bronchoscopy, and radial EBUS.

His research focuses on early-stage lung cancer, specifically on the diagnosis, staging, and treatment of early lung cancer and small peripheral metastatic lesions.

He has published over 170 peer-reviewed publications and supervised seven completed PhD projects, with 11 PhD projects currently ongoing in interventional pulmonology.

Prof. van der Heijden is also President-Elect of the European Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (EABIP).
