Prof. Dr. Kaid Darwiche, a native of Bochum, Germany, holds a board certification in Pulmonology and is affiliated with the Lung Clinic Hemer, which is associated with the University Medicine of the Ruhr-University of Bochum. His medical specialization encompasses Internal Medicine, which he acquired in 2004, followed by Respiratory Medicine in 2006. Subsequently, he served as a senior consultant and Co-Founder of the Department of Interventional Pneumology at the Ruhrlandklinik in Essen for a 15-year period. In 2025, he assumed the position of Head of the Lung Clinic Hemer, a renowned and training center dedicated to Interventional Pulmonology.
His primary clinical and research interests revolve around interventional bronchoscopic procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of thoracic tumors, as well as Central Airway Obstruction, both malignant and benign. Additionally, he focuses on Bronchoscopic Lung Volume Reduction and navigational bronchoscopy. Prof. Darwiche has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and has delivered international lectures on adult and pediatric airway disease. In 2015, he was appointed Associate Professor in Pulmonology, and in the same year, he was elected Vice-President of the West-German Lung Cancer Center. In 2018, he was further recognized as Head of the Endoscopy Section of the German Pneumology Society, and in 2020, he was nominated for the position of Associate Professor.
